Huge news for the Thames mountain biking community! Over the last month, the St John downhill trail in our Moanataiari network has undergone a massive upgrade, and it is officially complete and ready to ride! A massive THANKYOU to The Lion Foundation for providing the grant that made this project possible. Community funding like this keeps our local trails thriving, and we are incredibly grateful for their support. We also want to give a huge shout-out to the crew at Trailpro

We have been sucsesfull in securing a grant from the Akarana Community Trust, who funded $3,223.48 worth of new STIHL trail maintenance equipment for the club. This includes: • STIHL BR 800 Petrol Backpack Blower • STIHL KM 131 R Petrol Combi Engine • STIHL KB-KM Bristle Sweeper Combi Attachment These tools will make trail maintenance far more efficient and help us keep the trails riding better year-round. Massive thanks to Akarana Community Trust for supporting what we do.

The new log bridge across the creek crossing at the bottom of Darkness Trail up the Hotoritori has now been completed — and just in time too! With some of the heavy rainstorms we’ve been having lately, the creek has been running pretty high, but no worries now… just ride the log bridge instead of getting swept down the flooded creek 😂 A huge thanks to everyone involved with getting this cool feature finished.

Following our AGM on 9 March 2026, we wanted to take a moment to reflect on what our club has achieved together over the 12 months leading up to this date. After just ticking over 100 hours of build time, this trail has come together mostly the old-fashioned way — by hand — with our little Cormidi loader helping out by clearing pine needles and shifting dirt and tools around the hill. We’re stoked to share that another major stage of the Karaka Trail upgrade is now complete! Over the past few weeks, we’ve finished 1.1km of trail working back from the Karaka/Waiotahi intersection toward the Red Cliffs. The original goal was 1.4km, but with $40,000 raised (short of the $59,000 needed), we pushed ahead and upgraded as much as we could — leaving just 300m still to tackle in the future.
